WHEN GOD CHANGED MY HEART
by James, Sundermeier Home, Timor-Leste.
Hello, everyone. My name is James, and I would like to share how I came to know God and how He has changed my life.
Growing up, I knew the name of God. I knew that Jesus died on the cross for my sins, but I did not really have a relationship with Him. I was lazy about praying and going to church, and I often wasted my time playing with friends. I also worshipped idols, including statues, stones, and other objects, because I did not know the truth about the one true God.
My life was centred on my own desires. I smoked, stole things, and did things that did not please God or my parents. I did not know how to love or respect others, and I rarely showed humility. I was also unkind to my younger brothers and sisters, sometimes hitting them when my parents were not at home.
Looking back, I realise that I behaved this way because I had not yet experienced the love of God in my heart.
Everything began to change when God brought me to Sundermeier Home.

When I first came, I thought I would simply have the opportunity to learn English. I never imagined that I would also learn about the Word of God and discover what it means to have a relationship with Him.
At first, opening the Bible was difficult. I did not understand the chapters and verses, and I did not know how to study God's Word. But I was not alone. The other boys and girls in Grade 12 patiently helped me understand the Bible through morning devotions and evening Bible studies.
Little by little, I learnt to read God's Word and pray every day.
As I spent more time with God, He began to change my heart. He poured His love into me, and I began to understand what it means to love and respect others. The things I once did without thinking began to change because God was changing me from the inside.
One of the biggest changes in my life is that I now have a desire to serve others.
I have joined the children's ministry, something I would never have imagined doing before. Now, I hope to return to my own village to serve the children there by teaching them basic English and Bible stories.
I want them to know the love that I have come to know.
I once knew about God, but I did not truly know Him. Today, God is teaching me to walk with Him, to love others, and to serve Him with my life.
I am thankful that God brought me to Sundermeier Home. He did not simply give me a place to stay or an opportunity to learn English. He gave me something far greater: a new understanding of His love and a new desire to share that love with others.
My prayer is that I can bring the light of Christ to my village and help the children there discover the love of God too.
To God be the glory.
