God Changed Our Hearts through Prayer

by Chan, Life Group leader at International Christian Fellowship, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

When the whole city of Ho Chi Minh was put on lockdown, we could not meet physically at the church building. Instead, we had to hold our worship services via Zoom. Prior to the service, there was a Power House prayer meeting at 9.45am. My husband and I started to join this prayer meeting.

At the Power House prayer meeting, we prayed for all communities and places. We learnt to come together in prayer and fight for our people. The more we anticipated in prayer, the more we saw our God answering all our prayers and requests. He healed the sick, comforted those in grief, provided for the needy, and brought lost souls back to Himself. Most importantly, He changed our hearts.

As we prayed, we found ourselves being able to face the days with courage. This courage was found in Jesus’ Word, and it was not triggered by fear from today's news. We learnt to intentionally lift our eyes up to Jesus and call on His name in any situation. We could experience the perfect peace that Jesus promised in John 14:27: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

On 18 July 2021, we took part in a synchronised prayer at 8am and 8pm, which was organised by Ps Leslie. We were thankful for the opportunity to join forces and pray for Ho Chi Minh City at the same time - anywhere we were. We knew that our God was truly in control although we might not see any immediate result. He was bringing forth His purpose. The more we worshiped God through our praises and prayers, the more our hearts were shaped to beat like Christ. We even began to have loving hearts that looked out for others.

May Jesus encourage you to draw near to Him. May you find satisfaction in Him.
